Peking University is one of the most renowned universities in the People's Republic of China. The "Bei Jing Da Xue" (Beijing University) is often referred to by the Chinese as the Chinese Harvard. It is located in the northwest of Beijing in the Haidian district, not far from the Old Summer Palace and in the immediate vicinity of the also highly regarded Tsinghua University.
To the left and right of the entrance are two lions, which were donated by the civilian Wen Hanzhang around 1924.
